WHAT WE DO: DONUT BRIDAL SHOWER

Our very good friend Leah is getting married in a couple of months and what better way to show her we love her than with a donut themed bridal shower! Leah loves donuts just as much as we do so it was the perfect excuse to eat/talk about donuts for an entire morning.

The shower was held at Paige's apartment and with the help of her roommate Lindsey they definitely made it a shower to remember. We had an assortment of brunch foods: fruit, breakfast casseroles, coffee punch (which is awesome because ice cream) and of course the donuts. The donuts were from Magee's, a local Lexington favorite. The cutest donuts, however, were the DIY paper donut garland from Paper Source. (found here, along with so many other cute donut things!)

We were so happy to celebrate with her, but sometimes a bunch of moms are taking your picture and you don't know which camera to look at. Typical. Speaking of moms, shoutout to Brenda (Paige's mom) who is super thrifty and helped provide all those cute milk bottles and various serving dishes.

And of course a huge Thank You to our wonderful friend Kelly Hieronymus who was kind enough to take some pictures during the shower! She is an awesome photographer and took the best photo of a breakfast casserole that I have ever seen.

We love you Leah! Hope you enjoyed the shower and we can't wait to celebrate even more with you in May!

WHAT WE WEAR: PHOTOS WITH KAT MARCUM

We are so excited to finally share these amazing photos from the wonderfully talented Kat Marcum with you! Kat is a local Lexington photographer who specializes in weddings and portrait photography. Be sure to check out her fabulous work here and here. We were so lucky to get the opportunity to work with her and share her pictures on the blog. She couldn't have done a better job at making us feel comfortable in front of the camera, despite how awkward we try to be. Kat was a delight to work with and we can't wait to share more of her photos in the future!

WHAT WE WEAR: KEEPING IT CASUAL

Not too long ago when I heard the word "casual" my mind immediately went to spandex. And baggy t-shirts. And my Mickey Mouse sweatshirt with an ice cream stain on it. Eventually, however, I figured out that days off work, running errands, and coffee dates didn't mean I had to look like a bum on laundry day. A lot of times dresses can be just as comfortable (maybe even more!) than sweatpants. Once you've found a great casual dress, just throw on a few accessories in fun colors and cozy fabrics to bring it all together.

Dress/Anthropologie, Pullover/Anthropologie, Scarf/Forever21, Shoes/Minnetonka (here)

This dress is a great lightweight chambray that I love. It's easy to throw on in the summertime or layer with sweaters in spring. The pullover is equally as adorable, and I love that the color says it's 90 degrees but the fleece-lined sweatshirt says it's actually 40. Both are by Sam & Lavi, a brand Anthropologie carries that I've never been disappointed with!

And a final shoutout to my Minnetonka moccassins, which you can probably find me wearing at least 5 days in a week in all seasons. Easily the comfiest shoes I've ever owned, and look cute with dresses, shorts, pants, leggings, anything!

What are your go-to favorites for casual days?

Stay tuned to D+D for some exciting new posts next week! It's something we're particularly excited about and should get everyone excited for spring.

XO, Paige

DIY: LYRIC TOTE BAG

Who doesn't love cheesy but classic 80's songs like "Escape" (The Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes and "Rich Girl" by Hall & Oates? These two songs have been on repeat for what seems like weeks, so why not stamp our favorite lyrics on a tote bag?

This project is pretty simple and you can use any lyric, quote, name or picture you want. We completed ours in about an hour.

Supplies:
Tote Bag (We found ours at Michaels in a 3-Pack)
Craft paint (We chose Martha Stewart because it is a multi-surface paint!)
Alphabet Stamps
Paint Brushes
Homemade triangle stamp (Just a couple layers of foam cut in a triangle and glued to a piece of cardboard)

The hardest part of this whole project is probably choosing what you want to put on your bag. I picked a pineapple for me, in ode to pina coladas and Paige chose a piggy bank. We sketched our designs directly on the bag with a pencil and then got to work painting! I used the homemade triangle stamp with two different colors of yellow to make my pineapple.

Once we finished painting our designs we let them dry for a few minutes while we jammed to some more eighties classics. Next we used a brush to apply black paint to the stamps and added our lyrics to the bag!

These tote bags were super fun and easy to make and can be used for anything. We're thinking a road trip is in order soon, so these will definitely be holding the snacks.

**P.S. We don't actually condone living off a champagne only diet, seeing as you'd be missing out on just a few important nutrients and saving money actually gets you very far. Definitely tuck away that loose change for a rainy day.

THREE WAYS TO WEAR IT: HAREM PANT

Harem pants are everywhere this Spring and they can be a great piece to wear now or later. For this post we styled them for three different temperatures. 30's, 50's or 70's. The great part is, items from each outfit can be mixed and matched to create your own unique ensemble.

Harem Pants/Urban Outfitters (similar here), Chambray/Target, Sweater/Anthropologie, Booties/Madden Girl, Necklace/Forever 21

T-Shirt/Old Navy, Jacket/Anthropologie, Scarf/Calypso Boutique, Booties/Urban Outfitters

T-Shirt/Madewell, Oxfords/Target, Headband/Free People

What are your thoughts on harem pants? How would you style them?

WHAT WE WEAR: THE OUTTAKES

Dresses + Donuts is officially a month old! Thanks SO MUCH to those who are following and supporting us with your kind and encouraging words! We're loving the journey so far, but also learning there's a lot of trial and error with all the logistics of having a blog. Finding places to take pictures, dealing with the elements, nosy passerby's... style shoots are always an adventure. But at the end of the day, we're passionate about what we're doing and having so much fun through all of it. So we thought it'd be fun to share some of our outtakes from our first posts. (Because before every good picture, there were probably at least a million awkward faces and poses) Enjoy!

Here's to embracing those awkward moments and hoping modeling comes more naturally to us in the future :)
